Constraints are limitations imposed by nature or by human beings that may preclude certain choices (Keeney 1980). The specification of constraints is typically based on available resources and regulations and involves value or professional judgment. Constraints can impose limitations on the value that attributes and decision variables may assume (Malczewski 1999), or may serve to limit the alternatives under consideration (Eastman 2006).
